The Cloth Atlas

Editorial policy

The Cloth Atlas aims to publish clear, useful writing about textiles that respects the people, places, and knowledge behind them. We explain what we can support and make uncertainty visible when it matters.

Accuracy and context

We check names, terminology, and factual claims against suitable information before publication, and we revise wording when a claim is too broad or unclear. Cultural descriptions should be specific and carefully framed; we do not present one account as universal when practices vary.

Independence and corrections

Editorial decisions are made for the reader, not to secure a commercial outcome. If you spot an error, contact us with the article title and the detail in question. We review correction requests and update material when warranted, making significant changes clear to readers.

Paid and partner material

Any paid placement, sponsored feature, or other partner-supported material is clearly labelled where it appears. Partners do not receive editorial control over independent coverage, and commercial relationships do not guarantee a favourable mention.

Illustrations

Some illustrations may be generated with AI. When an illustration is AI-generated, we identify it as such; illustrations are not presented as documentary photographs of a specific textile or event.
